From Newsroom Leadership to Executive Coaching

Curiosity drove me then, and drives me today.

For more than three decades, I led teams in an industry defined by change. Thirty-five years in local news placed me at the epicenter of historic and consequential events. As a journalist, I brought curiosity, drive, and leadership to the table. Those first few years in the news business sparked an understanding that a free press is essential to democracy. I understood then – and I still believe now – that there is power in knowing and connecting with people. I love that I was part of that mission as a journalist. Those values still drive me today through Executive Coaching.

Leadership, Growth, and Openness

My work was never just about reporting the news; it was about leading diverse teams through chaos, leaning into curiosity to find creative solutions, and championing the growth of every individual. Utilizing my unique gifts and talents, I thrive in the space where my passion lies – at the intersection of navigating change, building resilience, and embracing new opportunities.

I know how overwhelming it can feel when the ground shifts beneath you. I also understand the delight in finding purpose, imagining possibility, and growing into new strengths you never knew you had. The lessons I learned about resilience, adaptability, and the critical role of steady leadership were invaluable. They are the foundation for my approach to executive leadership training and leadership development coaching.

Lessons from the Newsroom

Failure is temporary. The lesson is forever. In “always on” environments, setbacks happen — but they can be pathways toward transformation. When you don’t let the possibility of failure cripple you, you can turn complex challenges into moments of remarkable growth.

Opportunity often arrives disguised as disruption. In the fast-paced world of news, every moment is punctuated by disruption. But moments of crisis or change don’t have to crush you. They can elevate you, proving that disruption is nothing more than an opportunity waiting to be explored. Life is full of uncertainty, and priorities are constantly shifting. Opening yourself up to opportunities that come your way— even when they are painful and complex — can change the trajectory of your life.

Amid chaos, clarity and joy are possible. In a newsroom, as in life, chaos is all around. Whether covering natural disasters, presidential elections, or global health crises, I learned how to steady the storm, bring perspective to the situation, stay nimble, and keep moving forward – all while building a culture where people could thrive.

Everyone needs a purpose. Be curious. Curiosity is at the heart of my mindset. It’s why I spent so many years as a journalist. Asking questions, researching issues, and building relationships are at the core of my strategic consciousness. In the newsroom, I always looked for better ways to do things. As a coach, I guide my clients around obstacles to explore alternatives and possibilities. That was my purpose as a newsroom leader. It’s how I live my life—asking questions and seeking new ways to view the world and serve my community.

“Your success is our success.” This is one of my favorite phrases when I work with a team. Whether exploring a new collaborative venture, navigating change, or identifying leadership opportunities for team members, it’s something I say because it’s something I believe. Encouraging success is contagious. It’s gratifying to find new ways to harness someone’s growth so they can continue to bring value to their life and their family, network, and organization.

A Path Toward Purpose and Potential

My approach to leadership development and executive coaching goes beyond a simple plan — it’s a profoundly personal partnership rooted in empathy, humility, and lived experience. I find immense joy in helping people realize their untapped potential and discover new possibilities.

In a world that’s perpetually in motion, having the right coach can make all the difference. Together, we’ll identify your purpose, sharpen your vision, and clarify your goals so you can move confidently toward your next big thing.

We’ll create a path forward to help you not just survive change – but thrive because of it.
