Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Life Coach or an Executive Leadership Coach?
As a matter of fact, I’m a little bit of both!
Life Coach & Executive Coach
While I work with professionals in a business context, I also believe in coaching the person inside. I help people develop leadership skills that will help in their “work” life. Additionally, I also help my clients work through the personal challenges they face at home. After all, we bring our personal lives to work, and our work lives come home with us at the end of the day. So, in essence, I believe there’s power in coaching the complete person, and doing so can enhance many aspects of their lives.
Getting Real
With Life Coaches and Leadership Coaches, we’re there to provide you with a space to address real-world obstacles. This allows you to focus on your goals, identify your core values, and create impact that sticks – in all areas of your life.
What does an Executive Leadership Coach do?
An executive leadership coach is your partner, helping you strengthen your overall leadership presence in your organization.
Benefits of Coaching
Executive coaching can boost your confidence, clarify your communication style, or help create that work-life balance we all crave. Additionally, the right coach can help you develop greater self-awareness and enhance decision-making skills.
This partnership enables you to tap into your full potential — and bring your team with you. Through executive coaching, you can develop skills to prioritize the never-ending to-do list that keeps growing, so you can focus on what really matters.
How is coaching different from therapy, consulting, or mentoring?
This question is so important, and while it’s nuanced, let me clarify the subtle differences for you.
The Coach
As a coach, I’m all about helping you create a better future. As the client, you’re in the driver’s seat, setting the course. Together, we’re partners on the journey that you want to take to build the future and life you envision.
The Therapist
Therapists are different from coaches in that they use their training to help someone struggling with past trauma become well and heal old wounds. My coaching is rooted in what’s possible for you moving forward. I am not a licensed therapist and therefore, cannot provide therapy for my clients.
Mentors and Consultants
As your coach, I start from a place of collaboration. We work together as partners to maximize your potential. In that way, I’m neither a mentor, who might offer you their advice based on prior experience. Nor am I a consultant, who would explicitly offer a playbook to achieve your goals.
You’re the expert in your life. I’m here to walk beside you on your journey of self-discovery and awareness.
How do I know if coaching is right for me?
Coaching is about change – it’s about becoming.
Making Your Move
When you’re ready to make big moves, coaching can be a great fit. For example, do you want to elevate your leadership skills? Are you up for a significant promotion? Would you like to explore your exit strategy in case you get laid off? Or, are you looking to reinvent yourself completely? In all these instances, a coach can be your trusted sidekick. Research proves that the return on investment is substantial. Coaching helps you move past that feeling of being stuck and toward more meaningful action with an accountability partner by your side.
Live Your Best Life
Coaching is for anyone ready to take full responsibility for creating the life and results they desire. It can provide the space you need to find clarity, confidence, and focus, allowing you to take your next big step forward.
Does coaching really work?
Yes!
A coach is a guide who helps light the way for their client. And for coaching to stick, the client must be fully present throughout the process. So, when the coach and client are aligned in their goals and work, the results can be magic!
Coaching is Smart Business
According to the International Coaching Federation, 96% of employees who had an Executive Coach said they’d have a coach again. 86% of organizations that invested in executive coaching for their teams reported overall increases in employee performance, higher retention rates, and greater employee engagement.
The Coaching Investment
Coaching isn’t a quick fix – it’s an investment in you. While people can experience immediate and powerful insights through coaching, the real work takes time and commitment.
I’m not a Manager, Executive, or in the C-Suite. How can coaching help me?
You don’t have to be the boss to have a coach. Coaching is a journey of never-ending curiosity, growth, and possibility. If you’re ready to move more fully toward being a person who inspires, having a personal coach can change the trajectory of your life and career.
Catalyst for Change
When the old rules you’ve lived by no longer work for you, you feel trapped doing things “the way they’ve always been done,” or your internal voice is telling you it’s time for a reset, coaching can be a powerful catalyst for change.
What can I expect from coaching?
Before we even begin our coaching sessions, you’ll take the Energy Leadership™ Index assessment. I love this assessment! It gives us a starting point to help you home in on areas of focus during our coaching engagement.
Goals and Growth
Our next step will be to discuss your goals and the areas you want to concentrate on for your growth. We will keep revising those goals throughout the coaching engagement to ensure we’re on track. And if you decide to adjust or change your goals, that’s okay! It’s essential for both of us that we establish and maintain trust along the way. Since you are a unique individual with distinct interests and objectives, I tailor the coaching sessions to meet your specific needs.
Setting the Agenda
In each session, you will decide the topic or issue you want to work through. You set the agenda, and we go from there. We may be able to resolve some issues in just one or two sessions. For more complex problems, it may take us several sessions to address them and ensure they align with your overall goals. When you approach each session openly and with a genuine willingness to grow, the sessions will be most productive.
How does it work?
Great question!
Depending on our situation, we may conduct our coaching sessions on Zoom, by phone, or in person. I’m based in the Houston area, though I am willing to travel to Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, or other parts of Texas as needed.
Together, we will determine the overall engagement length, the frequency of our meetings, and set a schedule for our sessions. Sessions will last 60 minutes.
How long does coaching usually last?
All of the coaching services I offer are tailored to your unique needs and goals, so the time investment can vary. Often, clients commit to coaching that lasts anywhere from six months to a year. Later, some may return as needed to address specific challenges that arise.
As the client, you’re in the driver’s seat in terms of how quickly you want to move forward. I’ll ride shotgun, guiding you along the way, confident that you will reach your goals.
How is executive coaching different from leadership training?
While leadership training is typically a structured program with a trainer teaching specific skills, executive coaching is a one-on-one deep dive into your individual leadership mindset.
Through executive coaching, you can elevate your emotional intelligence, build powerful connections with those around you, and develop skills to navigate stressful situations.
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I’ll customize your coaching experience to address your unique challenges. As a result, this approach will help you develop the habits that will drive your long-term personal and professional success.
What is transition coaching?
The world of work has changed – disruption is everywhere, and change is the new normal. You may be reinventing your professional life following a layoff or jumping back into the workforce after a break. Or, perhaps you want to prepare for a career shift before it’s necessary. In all of these situations, a transition coach can provide the support you need to create a clear plan for what comes next. Transition coaching can help you step toward that new you with confidence and purpose.
